The History of Pools at the White House

I recently attended a pool conference in Washington, DC. While on an afternoon tour, the conversation turned to the history of the White House and if it still had a swimming pool. Planning for the White House began when President George Washington signed into Act in December of 1790 a declaration that the house be built. Construction began in 1792, and it was not until 1800 that the first residents moved into it—the family of President John Adams. Since that time, each President has made his own changes and additions, which includes 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 6 levels, 28 fireplaces, and 3 elevators. I went to Washington, D.C. this past week for a swimming pool conference. When I was in one of my meetings, the conversation turned to the history of swimming pools at the White House. A Fresh Outlook in 2011

As we begin this New Year, we are given a fresh start and many times a fresh outlook on what we want to accomplish in the future. Often times this includes looking to the past to determine if there are things that we would change if we were able to do so. Do we wish we had exercised more in the past? Do we wish we had more time together as a family? Spend more time outdoors?  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently hired Gohlke Pools to remodel our patio and add on an outdoor kitchen.  An important feature of the kitchen was a large pizza oven I ordered that from delivery to installation added a lot of complexity to our project.  Bill, our project manager, handled every challenge I threw at him with patience and grace.  There was some minor damage to the oven during shipping and before they installed it Bill spent a week hunting down replacement tile to repair the damage so I’d never know the difference.  The oven looks perfect!  Every member of every crew they had at our house were very skilled professionals but I must give a special thanks to their stonemasons, Jesus and Osvaldo.  The fireplace they created for us is gorgeous.  We couldn’t be happier with our new patio and I can’t recommend Gohlke Pools enough.

Gohlke did a great job building us an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and remodeling our large patio including resurfacing the concrete.  Always on schedule, all over the worker were a class act. Bill supervising the job was a real pro and great to deal with.  Placing a 3000 pound oven was a challenge and they made it look easy. Real attention to detail. This is a great company!
