  • Swim Almost Year-Round With a Pool Heater

We are coming off of a very hot summer. Following is some data that helps support that claim: With that being said, it has finally begun to cool down some. With these cooler temperatures, average pool water temperatures in the Denton area are definitely dropping—we are now seeing average water temperatures in the high 70’s to low 80’s. According to the National Oceanographic Data Center, 70-78 degrees is where most people feel most comfortable swimming. I am not sure who “most people” are, but from what I have observed, 70-78 degrees is a bit cold for most of us north Texans. Most of us seem to prefer between 80-84 degrees, but it really depends on the individual and what type of swimming is being done. For those who do…

  • Swimming Pool Care Tips after the Heavy Rainfall

It has been almost three months since we have received substantial rainfall. On July 13th, we received 1.29” of rain (measured at DFW Airport). Folks, that is a long time! But that is all supposed to change over the next few days. I know that we need to be grateful for this rain, and we are, but it can really wreak havoc on swimming pools—by exposing problems such as drainage issues and by creating problems such as debris in the pool and water chemistry issues. Drainage issues—If you have drainage issues, heavy rain can really expose them. The best way to determine if poor drainage exists is to observe the pool area during heavy rain. If poor drainage is an issue which causes rain water draining into the pool,…

  • The Fall is a Great Time to Enjoy Your Pool

This has been a very hot, dry summer. Following are some weather facts from these past few months: With that being said, it does finally appear that temperatures are finally beginning to cool down. The average date of the last 100-degree day is August 27th. The latest date that we have seen triple digits is October 3rd (1951)—I think that we can all agree that we hope that record doesn’t get broken this year. Fall will officially arrive on September 22nd, and in my opinion, we are entering the best time of year to be in the DFW area for outdoor activities, including using your pool. The average ambient temperatures for the next three months are as follows:September – 78 degrees (average high=88 degrees; average low=67 degrees)October…

The company had two pool projects featured in this year’s design showcase, placing Gohlke Pools in the elite top 10 of pool designers recognized for excellence in pool and outdoor living design. • Methods to Cool Your Pool Water & Patio Area

According to my calculations, today, August 13th, is the eighteenth time this summer that we have reached 100 degrees. With the weather forecast for the next few weeks predicting temperatures of over 100 degrees almost daily, it appears that we will far exceed our average of 20 days per year of temperatures over 100 degrees. It now appears that the number will be in the 30-40 range. This is far below our record of 71 100 degree days in 2011. For you old timers, like me, you likely remember the summer of 1980—69 100 degree days. As a reminder, last year we only reached 100 degrees seven times. Traditionally, one of the solutions to dealing with this heat is the cool enjoyment that a swimming…

  • Water Your Yard to Prevent Damage to Your Pool

We had a fairly mild and wet first six months of 2026, but the last few weeks have been very hot and dry. This type of weather can impact pools in the north Texas area, and we all need to be aware of it. This area tends to have pockets of fairly expansive soil—soil that contracts when is gets dry and expands when it gets wet. Therefore, extremely dry, hot periods can really dry out the soil—causing it to contract. When it finally does rain, expansion of the soil will take place. Whatever is in contact with the soil during this time of contraction and expansion also experiences movement. This movement can damage not only pool decks, but also roads, house foundations, driveways, sidewalks, and…

  • The Dog Days of Summer

Most of us at Gohlke Pools are animal lovers. Whether they are our pets or our clients’ pets, we get attached to them and we want them to have the best life possible, especially during the dog days of summer. With that being said, with the hot weather that we are currently experiencing, we sometimes get asked our opinion of whether dogs should be allowed in the family pool. Although it is not recommended by most in the swimming pool industry due to additional chemical requirements and dog hair in the skimmer baskets, pump basket, & filter, we have always felt that dogs that enjoy being in the water should be allowed to do so. The exception to that would be vinyl-liner pools, as a dog’s claws could…

  • 100 Degree Weather Facts for the DFW Area

It seems to have been a fairly mild spring/summer thus far, but before long it will be 100 degrees and rainfall will likely become a distant memory. You might recall that last summer was way below average as far as 100-degree days are concerned—we only had 7 days of at least 100 degrees (we average 20). That begs the question:  How hot will it be this summer? While we all know that it is very difficult to predict the weather, I recently read the following statement from Jesse Hawila, senior meteorologist for WFAA:  All summers in North Texas are hot…but this one may be particularly hot. We average 20 triple-digit days in a summer. I do suspect we’ll have above-normal triple-digit days this year.” (Source: KERA article by Ron Corning…

  • 5 Hot Weather Pool Care Tips from the Front Lines

So far this spring/summer, it has been fairly mild. With that being said, we know that it will be getting hot soon. The average date of our first 100 degree day is July 1st. Last year it didn’t arrive until July 29th, but the three years prior to that it was in June (2024-June 23rd; 2023-June 25th; 2022-June 11th. As you can imagine, this hot weather can create problems for swimming pools if the pool is not properly maintained. We take care of many pools on a weekly basis, and although we don’t always succeed at keeping them all clear and beautiful 100% of the time, we feel that we can offer some sage advice. Following are 5 hot weather pool care secrets from the…

I’ve had the opportunity to have Joey Gallagher service my hot tub several times. He has always treated his customers with courtesy, professionalism, respect and genuine care he shows to them. I’ve learned quite a lot from him about the hot tub. I would definitely recommend him to any of your customer base.

Gohlke (Gary) replaced my pump with VSP Pentair. I then had them (Dale and crew) come replace the Mastic. Getting great service I had Eli give us a quote come back to replace the Tile, pool Light and replaster. Bill was the project manager and couldn't ask for anyone better. I was nervous about the project but after one visit he had my complete trust. Everyone has been so professional and knowledgeable. I love my pool. Can't thank everyone enough. Special thanks to Gary, Bill, Dale, Eli, all the pool cleaners Aaron, Miguel (a couple more). Gohlke is now my goto for Pool Care. Robbie

I had a great experience speaking with Connor from Gohlke Pools. Although my home is outside their service area and they were not able to come out to fix my pool’s built-in freeze protection system, Connor was incredibly helpful and generous with his time. He took the time to review the pictures and information I provided, carefully assess the situation, and explain his diagnosis and possible solutions to me—all without charging me anything. He also went the extra mile by referring me to a company that is closer to my home and may be able to handle the repair. I truly appreciate Connor’s professionalism, knowledge, kindness, and willingness to help even though he could not take on the job himself. His generosity and customer service really stood out to me. I highly recommend Gohlke Pools, and especially appreciate the assistance I received from Connor!

I contacted these guys for a chiller to be installed for my Inground pool. I was very skeptical if it would actually work in this Texas heat. I have zero shade trees. Decided to just do it and it’s amazing!! Our pool went from feeling like bath water to COLD! We run it at night and that’s it. Did not raise my electric bill like I thought either. Install was amazing. Customer service was and is amazing! If you’re on the fence, DO IT!

We have worked with several people at Gohlke. Evan, Daniel and Cody for pool maintenance and repairs. They are courteous and attentive. They listen carefully to issues or questions we have and take time to give us informative responses. Travis has repaired issues with the equipment and is very thorough and will the share information regarding the repairs. The office staff is equally responsible and pleasant to communicate with regarding billing and any questions we may have. Gohlke is a good company to work with.

Korbin came and looked at our very old Thermospa. We decided that repairs would not be cost effective. He tried a couple of repairs but were unsuccessful. Korbin told me about spa removal and we made the decision that it was time for our hot tub to go. A week later Korbin and some other techs arrived on time and the spa was removed in less than an hour. Everyone was helpful and courteous. Korbin & the rest of the crew were very good representives of your company. Thanks for a good experience. Paul Abbott

The team has been amazing in the entire pool process came up with a design I just love for my backyard. The selection process was not overwhelming. The construction team was there to make sure tasks were completed timely. They continue to help even after the build with questions. I continue to use them for the cleaning after the build. They know the pool and they are keeping it amazing each time I walk outside.
