  • May is National Water Safety Month

National Water Safety Month is a campaign that is observed every May in order to raise awareness about drowning prevention and overall water safety.  The campaign primarily focuses on educational programs, public service announcements, and other resources (such as posters, safety toolkits, life jackets, etc.) to get the word out.  It is coordinated by the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance with support from the American Red Cross, National Drowning Prevention Alliance, National Recreation & Park Association, and the World Waterpark Association. As pool season kicks off for many of approximately 40,000 swimming pools in Denton County, it is important to be aware of pool safety and to be proactive.  Swimming is an excellent activity that family and friends can enjoy together, but we must always…

  • Now is a Great Time to Have a Pool Heater

With ambient temperatures now starting to get into at least the 80’s consistently and occasionally the 90’s, pool water temperatures are increasing as well. As of this writing (March 20th), average pool water temperatures in the Denton area are in the mid 60’s—of course this depends on if the pool is shaded, if it has a dark surface, etc. For most of us, the pool water is still too cold to enjoy a swim. According to the National Oceanographic Data Center, 70-78 degrees is where most people feel comfortable swimming. I am not sure who “most people” are, but from what I have observed, 70-78 degrees is still a bit too cold for most of us north Texans. Although I have already seen some children…

  • 5 Tips to Help You Get Your Pool Ready

The weather has really warmed up recently and it appears that the cold weather is now behind us. We can almost be assured that we have had the last freeze of winter 2025/2026, as our average last freeze is on March 12th, and there does not appear to be any cold weather in the long-range forecast. What does this mean to pool owners? It means that now is the time to begin preparing your swimming pool for the summer. Algae grows best between pH levels of 7 and 9 and algae growth really begins to increase at water temperatures of 60 degrees. With pool water pH levels being in that pH range, and with pool water temperatures in the Denton area in the mid 60’s,…

  • Hot Tub Purchasing Tips

Hot tubs have continued to increase in popularity in recent years. There are many reasons for this recent trend, such as: With that being said, purchasing a hot tub can be fairly complicated—especially with the differences in quality and price that are currently in the marketplace. In order to help simplify it, we have put together answers to some of the most common questions about hot tub ownership: What is the difference between a hot tub, a spa, and a Jacuzzi? Typically, a hot tub is considered portable, as it is a totally self-contained unit that sits above the ground. One of the advantages of a hot tub is that you can move it (much like you move furniture). When someone refers to the term spa, they…

  • 2026 Big Sale Dates Announced!

41 years ago, the Retail Store of Gohlke Pools started having an annual sale—called The Big Sale! This sale has historically been a great opportunity for pool owners to stock up for the upcoming pool season at special discounted prices and to begin preparing their pool for the season. In an effort to accommodate the needs and timing of all of our Retail Store customers, we have decided to have two of these sales this spring. The dates are as follows: March 26th thru 29thApril 23rd thru 26th At each of the two sales, there will be special pricing on everything in stock: all maintenance items, chemicals (lowest prices in the area on 3” tablets), Polaris Automatic Pool Cleaners, and Sundance Spas. Don’t miss this…

  • DFW Freezing Weather Information

We had a fairly mild summer, as we only reached 100 degrees five times, which is way below our average of twenty. Now we turn our attention to winter weather. According to the National Weather Service, there is a likelihood of above-normal temperatures and normal precipitation this winter. This outlook is largely influenced by the presence of a developing La Nina climate pattern, which typically results in warmer and drier conditions across the southern tier of the United States. We are likely just weeks away from our first freeze. Last year, we had our first freeze last year on December 6th, just a couple of weeks later than our average first freeze, which is November 22nd. Following is some additional weather information to help get…

  • Winter Pool Care Options

Although this is probably the best time of year to use a pool due to milder ambient temperatures and cooler pool water temperatures, many pool owners have turned their focus to other things such as returning to school, football, camping/hiking, etc. once Labor Day arrived. Even though our average first freeze is not until November 22nd, we have had quite a few pool owners ask about winter pool care. Depending on several variables (number of trees surrounding the pool, pool location, whether you heat the pool in the winter, etc.), there are basically three options for DFW area winter pool care, which are: North Texas area pool owners have used all of these winter pool care options, but the best method is the one that fits…

  • How to Deal with Freeze Damage

It has been a rough few days for pool owners. With temperatures getting as low as they did, combined with the number of consecutive hours below freezing, there were some pools that experienced freeze damage. Most of the damage that occurred was limited to the pool equipment pad area—pumps, filters, heaters, pipes, etc. There are two extreme weather events that can cause freeze damage to pool components, and we had them both over the past few days: What pool owners need to do now: As you are probably already aware of, water expands by approximately 9% when it is frozen, therefore anything that is full of water and freezes can potentially be damaged. Therefore, it would probably be a good idea to check to see…

  • How to Prevent Freeze Damage

Cold weather is on the way! The forecast is calling for extremely cold weather beginning late this weekend into early next week. This can be difficult on pool equipment, as water expands by approximately 9% when it freezes, sometimes resulting in busted pipes or equipment components. What can really be difficult on pool equipment is consecutive number of hours below freezing—which we are expecting from beginning Sunday thru Tuesday night. Following Are a Few General Maintenance Tips That Will Help When it Comes to Preventing Problems Due to Freezing Temperatures: Most Pool Equipment in the Denton area has been programmed so that the pumps are switched on by a Freeze Sensor when the ambient air temperature approaches freezing, but it is still important to make…

Christmas Gift Ideas for the Pool or Hot Tub Owner

As we enter the holiday season, we start thinking of potential gifts for our family and friends. Sometimes it can difficult to find that special gift for someone. One special way to honor that person is to make a contribution in their name to a worthwhile charity. Denton has many excellent non-profit agencies that could always use some financial support. Another gift idea for the “hard to buy for” is to think practical. Do they have a swimming pool or a hot tub? If so, then there are many gifts that can be used by the pool owner to help make their life more enjoyable. It seems like each year we have to buy someone a gift that we are not sure they will like…

I’ve had the opportunity to have Joey Gallagher service my hot tub several times. He has always treated his customers with courtesy, professionalism, respect and genuine care he shows to them. I’ve learned quite a lot from him about the hot tub. I would definitely recommend him to any of your customer base.

Gohlke (Gary) replaced my pump with VSP Pentair. I then had them (Dale and crew) come replace the Mastic. Getting great service I had Eli give us a quote come back to replace the Tile, pool Light and replaster. Bill was the project manager and couldn't ask for anyone better. I was nervous about the project but after one visit he had my complete trust. Everyone has been so professional and knowledgeable. I love my pool. Can't thank everyone enough. Special thanks to Gary, Bill, Dale, Eli, all the pool cleaners Aaron, Miguel (a couple more). Gohlke is now my goto for Pool Care. Robbie

I had a great experience speaking with Connor from Gohlke Pools. Although my home is outside their service area and they were not able to come out to fix my pool’s built-in freeze protection system, Connor was incredibly helpful and generous with his time. He took the time to review the pictures and information I provided, carefully assess the situation, and explain his diagnosis and possible solutions to me—all without charging me anything. He also went the extra mile by referring me to a company that is closer to my home and may be able to handle the repair. I truly appreciate Connor’s professionalism, knowledge, kindness, and willingness to help even though he could not take on the job himself. His generosity and customer service really stood out to me. I highly recommend Gohlke Pools, and especially appreciate the assistance I received from Connor!

I contacted these guys for a chiller to be installed for my Inground pool. I was very skeptical if it would actually work in this Texas heat. I have zero shade trees. Decided to just do it and it’s amazing!! Our pool went from feeling like bath water to COLD! We run it at night and that’s it. Did not raise my electric bill like I thought either. Install was amazing. Customer service was and is amazing! If you’re on the fence, DO IT!

We have worked with several people at Gohlke. Evan, Daniel and Cody for pool maintenance and repairs. They are courteous and attentive. They listen carefully to issues or questions we have and take time to give us informative responses. Travis has repaired issues with the equipment and is very thorough and will the share information regarding the repairs. The office staff is equally responsible and pleasant to communicate with regarding billing and any questions we may have. Gohlke is a good company to work with.

We've used them for over 10 years! They're amazing! I am now going to use them on a property I work at. Best service really, and you won't have to call them back 10 times. They will do it right the first time!

Korbin came and looked at our very old Thermospa. We decided that repairs would not be cost effective. He tried a couple of repairs but were unsuccessful. Korbin told me about spa removal and we made the decision that it was time for our hot tub to go. A week later Korbin and some other techs arrived on time and the spa was removed in less than an hour. Everyone was helpful and courteous. Korbin & the rest of the crew were very good representives of your company. Thanks for a good experience. Paul Abbott

The team has been amazing in the entire pool process came up with a design I just love for my backyard. The selection process was not overwhelming. The construction team was there to make sure tasks were completed timely. They continue to help even after the build with questions. I continue to use them for the cleaning after the build. They know the pool and they are keeping it amazing each time I walk outside.
