100 Degree Weather Facts for the DFW Area

It seems to have been a fairly mild spring/summer thus far, but before long it will be 100 degrees and rainfall will likely become a distant memory. You might recall that last summer was way below average as far as 100-degree days are concerned—we only had 7 days of at least 100 degrees (we average 20).

That begs the question: How hot will it be this summer? While we all know that it is very difficult to predict the weather, I recently read the following statement from Jesse Hawila, senior meteorologist for WFAA: All summers in North Texas are hot…but this one may be particularly hot. We average 20 triple-digit days in a summer. I do suspect we’ll have above-normal triple-digit days this year.” (Source: KERA article by Ron Corning on April 23, 2026)

In the record-breaking year of 2011 when we had 71 days of at least 100 degrees, we had our first 100-degree day on June 13th and our last one on September 29th—what a summer to remember! July was brutal that year with all but one day reaching 100 degrees. For those of you who were in DFW in 1980, every single day in July reached 100 degrees.

Hopefully this summer will be nothing like 2011 or 1980!

How to Deal with the Chlorine Shortage

How we got here. Over the weekend a lot of the major news outlets decided to report on the pool chlorine shortage our country is facing for this summer. This problem goes back to August 27th, 2020 when Hurricane Laura made landfall in the Lake Charles, LA area. It just so happens that roughly 60% of the nation’s chlorine tablets are manufactured there. The hurricane caused a fire at that production facility that was eventually extinguished after a few days, completely devastating that plant. We buy all of our supplies from them! They are very friendly in the store. I've had a few issues with repairs they've done for me, like tile replacement. I wasn't really satisfied with it but they do always try to make it up in other ways. They fixed this area about 3 years ago.  I didn't feel that the guy really knew what he was doing. It didn't really look good at all. I called and he came back to fix it but within a year it started coming off again. I don't think the right grout was used. The original pool has been on there for 30 years so I don't know why the repair wouldn't last longer than a year or 2.

He tried a couple of repairs but were unsuccessful. Korbin told me about spa removal and we made the decision that it was time for our hot tub to go. A week later Korbin and some other techs arrived on time and the spa was removed in less than an hour. Everyone was helpful and courteous. Wes was absolutely amazing as he worked very hard to design us the perfect pool for our family's needs. He was so patient with us and gave excellent ideas of what the pool should look like after hearing all our many wants.
