It Is Going To Be a Great Summer!
The Rain
What an interesting (and wet) spring that we have had—it has been a record breaker! In April, we received much more rain than normal, but then the record-breaking May arrived. Now that the rain appears to be over for a while, let’s look back on it.
In May, it rained 24 out of 30 days for a total of 16.96” of rain. It was the most rain that we have received in May since records have been kept—117 years (1898). In addition, it was the third wettest month since records have been kept, less than 1” from the wettest month.
Thru May, we have received 31.63” of rain, which is 88% of our yearly average of 36.14”.
The biggest beneficiary of this rain has been our water supply—the area lakes, which are all full for the most part. For that, I am grateful.
The Milder Temperatures
In addition to the rainfall, we have been blessed by mild temperatures thus far. The average for our first 90 degree day is April 19th. The latest ever was June 12th (1970). This year, we did not reach 90 degrees until June 3rd, which was a 4th place tie for the latest first 90 degree day. Prior to this year, there were only five years in which we had not received a 90 degree day thru May—1905, 1919, 1970, 1976, & 1983. Now you can add 2015 to that list.
I have heard several forecasters predicting a fairly mild summer, which is great news for those of us that like to spend time outdoors.
So the lakes are full and it appears that it will be a fairly mild summer—which will be great for all outdoor activities, including spending time in the pool!
