We at Gohlke Pools engage with the community we do business with in a number of ways. One way that we think pays off in multiple ways is through the Alternative Gifts Fair, an annual fundraising event for local charities sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of Denton, Texas. The Alternative Gifts Fair offers friends and family an alternate way to take care of their holiday shopping and participate in supporting the work of our local charities.

Gohlke Pools was awarded this badge for participating as a Matching Sponsor at this event. We enjoy being a part of this multi-faceted world of giving that brings together so many people for the betterment of our community. Our thanks go out to First United Methodist Church for providing this creative event that brings so many together.

Matt has been around the pool business since he was born. When he graduated college in 1984, he joined the family business working for Gohlke Pool Supply. The following year Matt and his father formed a partnership, Gohlke Custom Pools, and started offering pool construction.

Hard Freeze Warning – Protect Your Pool

With the temperatures that we are expecting this weekend, it is important that your pool equipment is prepared to handle IT. Most pool equipment in the Denton area has been programmed so that the pumps are switched on by a freeze sensor when the ambient air temperature approaches freezing, but it is still important to make sure. Following is what you need to be looking for: Main pump—The main pump should definitely be operating when the temperature is freezing. This helps prevent damage to other components as well—such as the filter, heater, etc. Booster pump (for automatic cleaners)—The booster pump does not need to be operating, since water from the main pump is circulating thru the booster pump. Even though it has been unseasonably warm this week, pool water temperatures continue to fall due to the cooler nights that we have been having. Although quite a few people (especially kids) will swim thru October, for others the water will soon be simply too uncomfortable—as most of us prefer pool water temperatures in the mid-to-high 80s. With the first average freeze date for this area being just over one month away (November 22nd), pool water temperatures will definitely continue to decrease. If you aren’t ready to give it up, you might want to consider getting a pool heater, which can stretch the swim season to 10 months per year, versus 5-6 months without a pool heater. Ever since the record cold snap that we had in mid-February, many pool owners have been looking forward to some warmer weather, and we are finally getting some. Although pool water temperatures are still around 70 degrees, it will not be long until we can all comfortably swim. What some consider comfortable might still be too cold for others and vice versa—everyone is different. Be Prepared for Freezing Weather

Thus far we have seen a mild winter, but most likely we will see another significant freeze or two before spring. Extreme cold for us and pool equipment is low 20’s and below and prolonged freezes where we don’t get above freezing for 24 hours or longer. Damage due to freezes can be very expensive, so please take the following precautions before any significant freeze: Make sure the pool is filled before the freezing weather gets here. Frozen hoses and faucets make it difficult to fill the pool during freezing temperatures. Check your pump(s) for operation, they are what prevent freeze damage. An important feature of the kitchen was a large pizza oven I ordered that from delivery to installation added a lot of complexity to our project.  Bill, our project manager, handled every challenge I threw at him with patience and grace.  There was some minor damage to the oven during shipping and before they installed it Bill spent a week hunting down replacement tile to repair the damage so I’d never know the difference.  The oven looks perfect!  Every member of every crew they had at our house were very skilled professionals but I must give a special thanks to their stonemasons, Jesus and Osvaldo.  The fireplace they created for us is gorgeous.  We couldn’t be happier with our new patio and I can’t recommend Gohlke Pools enough.
