  • 5 Tips to Help You Get Your Pool Ready

Although we had a few cold spells, it really hasn’t been a memorable winter like it was last winter (the deep freeze of February 2021). Now that we are into late March, it is unlikely that we will have another freeze (as the weather continues to warm up. For the record, our average last freeze is March 13th and our latest freeze on record is April 13th. What does this mean to pool owners? It means that now is the time to begin preparing your swimming pool for the summer. Algae grows best between pH levels of 7 and 9 and algae growth really begins to increase at water temperatures of 60 degrees. With pool water pH levels being in that pH range, and with…

Christmas Gift Ideas for the Pool or Hot Tub Owner

As we enter the holiday season, we start thinking of potential gifts for our family and friends. Sometimes it can difficult to find that special gift for someone. One special way to honor that person is to make a contribution in their name to a worthwhile charity. Denton has many excellent non-profit agencies that could always use some financial support. Another gift idea for the “hard to buy for” is to think practical. Do they have a swimming pool or a hot tub? If so, then there are many gifts that can be used by the pool owner to help make their life more enjoyable. It seems like each year we have to buy someone a gift that we are not sure they will like…

  • Freeze Warning This Weekend – Be Prepared!

We are expecting the first freeze of the season this weekend—and pool owners should be prepared. The average first freeze occurring in the DFW area on November 22nd, so it appears that it will happen just about on schedule this year. With many weather forecasters predicting a colder and wetter winter than we usually have, it is almost certain that freezing temperatures will be here in a matter of weeks, if not days. As the freezing weather approaches, it is important that you know how to prevent freeze damage if your pool has not already been prepared for the freeze. Following are our recommendations on how to prevent freeze damage. Continu the regular weekly routine of testing the water, adding chemicals as necessary, cleaning out…

  • Is A Swimming Pool Right For My Family?

Although it has been a very cold winter, the weather that we are currently experiencing has many homeowners thinking about being outdoors and the possibility of having a swimming pool installed.  For some, this will be one of the best decisions that they have ever made for their family.  But for others, it will not work out quite like they envisioned. I often get asked whether I believe if having a swimming pool is a good decision.  It really depends on the situation. There are some who have owned several homes in their lifetime and wouldn’t think of owning a home without a pool.  There are others who have pools who would probably be better off without them—due to time, financial, and other issues.  There…

  • How to Find a Pool Leak

Once you have determined that the pool is leaking (see last week’s article if you have not yet determined whether your pool is leaking), it is typically very difficult for a pool owner to find a leak in a swimming pool, due to the vast amount of plumbing and other potential areas of water loss.  Therefore, it is normally best to have a leak detection service locate the leak.  Leak detection services for swimming pool usually cost $400-$600 for locating the leak, which typically does not include repair of the leak.  Once the leak is located, repairs can be made.  Prolonged pool leaks can cause damage to the pool structure or deck over time if they are ignored. Let’s all do our part so that…

Pool Heaters: Heat that Cool Water!

The weather has been wonderful as of late—we have had our share of warm days, but it is starting to cool down considerably, as has pool water. We certainly do not know what the future holds as far as weather goes, but rest assured that 85-degree pool water is over for this year. Average pool water temperatures in the Denton area are now in the high 60’s to low 70’s—of course this depends on if the pool is shaded, if it has a dark surface, etc. According to the National Oceanographic Data Center, 70-78 degrees is where most people feel comfortable swimming. I am not sure who “most people” are, but from what I have observed, 70-78 degrees is a bit cold for most of…

Albert did a great job communicating throughout... from swinging by before repair to ensure correct sizing/equipment, through quoting, ordering, scheduling time and completing repair. Top notch, very professional and great experience. Thanks, Albert!

We recently hired Gohlke Pools to remodel our patio and add on an outdoor kitchen. An important feature of the kitchen was a large pizza oven I ordered that from delivery to installation added a lot of complexity to our project. Bill, our project manager, handled every challenge I threw at him with patience and grace. There was some minor damage to the oven during shipping and before they installed it Bill spent a week hunting down replacement tile to repair the damage so I’d never know the difference. The oven looks perfect! Every member of every crew they had at our house were very skilled professionals but I must give a special thanks to their stonemasons, Jesus and Osvaldo. The fireplace they created for us is gorgeous. We couldn’t be happier with our new patio and I can’t recommend Gohlke Pools enough.

Gohlke did a great job building us an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and remodeling our large patio including resurfacing the concrete. Always on schedule, all over the worker were a class act. Bill supervising the job was a real pro and great to deal with. Placing a 3000 pound oven was a challenge and they made it look easy. Real attention to detail. This is a great company!

DFW Hot Tubs made the entire hot tub buying experience easy and enjoyable. Pablo was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind, guiding me through every step and helping my family choose the perfect spa for our needs. He provided clear education on care and maintenance, and his support has continued even after the purchase. I highly recommend DFW Hot Tubs and specifically Pablo for his professionalism and outstanding customer service!

WOW! Just WOW! We couldn’t be happier with our first pool! It’s a huge investment, and you want to feel confident and comfortable with your decision. From the first meet-and-greet to Matt and Connor checking in after completion, we are so thankful we chose Gohlke Pools. Communication gets 100 stars! We received regular email updates throughout the project with timelines and progress reports. Connor was extremely helpful with design ideas and changes, and Matt was always present—taking care of anything and everything promptly. Caden did a fantastic job with our “pool school” at the end. He was patient, answered every question, and genuinely wanted us to feel prepared. The entire process was smooth, and they even finished ahead of schedule. We were also impressed with each subcontractor—the quality of their work and the respect they had for our property were outstanding. Subias, the recommended landscaper, was wonderful to work with, and Javier Subias was incredibly helpful in planning our outdoor design. All in all, we were so impressed with Gohlke that we’ve decided to use them for our weekly service as well. THANK YOU, GOHLKE POOLS, for making our experience so positive!
