What Is Going On With This Weather?
I am sitting here looking out at ice on the pool deck—the result of the “thunder sleet” that just fell on March 2nd! Yes, March 2nd! In the past few weeks, we have been exposed to new weather phrases: first it was “polar vortex” and today I heard “thunder sleet”.
While watching the news recently, I heard that we have had 51 freezes thru February 27th, which is the most that we have had in 37 years. Since then, we have had two more—and there is a possibility that we have more as winter comes to an end. Therefore, I believe that it is safe to say that it has been a cold winter. But, as we all know, before long it will heat up and this cold winter will be a distant memory.
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts that March will be average 3 degrees below average, but that April and May will be slightly warmer and rainier than normal. It goes on to predict that summer will be hotter and slightly drier than normal, with pockets of major drought likely. The hottest periods will be in early July, mid- to late July, and early to mid-August.
So enjoy the “thunder sleet” and know that we will all be enjoying our pools soon.
