    Be Prepared for Freezing Weather

Thus far we have seen a mild winter, but most likely we will see another significant freeze or two before spring.  Extreme cold for us and pool equipment is low 20’s and below and prolonged freezes where we don’t get above freezing for 24 hours or longer.  Damage due to freezes can be very expensive, so please take the following precautions before any significant freeze: Make sure the pool is filled before the freezing weather gets here.  Frozen hoses and faucets make it difficult to fill the pool during freezing temperatures. Check your pump(s) for operation, they are what prevent freeze damage. Main pump – this should definitely be operating during freezing air temperatures.  This is what protects other components (filter, heater, plumbing, etc.) Booster…

  • Hot Tubs

Few people will disagree that soaking in a hot tub is just about as good as life gets.  Whether you are spending time alone enjoying the quietness at the end of a long day, enjoying some downtime with your spouse, or even enjoying some family bonding time in the hot tub, there is little argument about the mental and physical benefits of relaxing in a hot tub.  Hot tubs provide the mental benefit of reducing stress and allowing you to relax.  According to the National Sleep Foundation, immersing yourself in hot water for 15 minutes before bedtime enhances your ability to fall asleep.  In addition, we all know the physical benefits as hydrotherapy is one of the oldest and safest methods of treating common ailments…

  • A Fresh Outlook in 2011

As we begin this New Year, we are given a fresh start and many times a fresh outlook on what we want to accomplish in the future.  Often times this includes looking to the past to determine if there are things that we would change if we were able to do so.  Do we wish we had exercised more in the past?  Do we wish we had more time together as a family?   Spend more time outdoors?    Whether you call them New Year’s resolutions or goals or even something else, the beginning of the year often times gives us hope that we have another chance. I am a goal setter.  I enjoy the setting goals and I enjoy even more accomplishing these goals.  I do…

  • An Update on Dealing with Freeze Damage

In the days leading up to Christmas Day-2022, we had some extremely cold weather with a low of 11 degrees (DFW Airport). With temperatures getting this cold, there were some pools that experienced freeze damage. Most of the damage that occurred was limited to the pool equipment pad area—pumps, filters, heaters, pipes, etc. There are two extreme weather events that can cause freeze damage to pool components: As you are probably already aware of, water expands by approximately 9% when it is frozen, therefore anything that is full of water and freezes can potentially be damaged. Therefore, it would probably be a good idea to check to see if you have experienced freeze damage. Following is a course of action for checking for freeze damage…

  • Hot Weather Pool Care

Here we are again; it is getting hot. As you can imagine, these high temperatures can create problems for swimming pools even when a routine swimming pool maintenance program is followed. Two of the most common pool problems that pool owners experience this time of year due to the heat are cloudy water and algae. Cloudy water due to water chemistry imbalance Low sanitizer (chlorine) levels or high pH levels (above 7.6) can cause cloudy water. Professional pool cleaners know the importance of keeping the pH toward the lower end of the ideal range of 7.2 to 7.6—as chlorine is much more effective as those lower pH levels. If you have cloudy water and suspect that it is a water chemistry problem, simply test the…

  • Weekly Pool Maintenance Tips

Now that we are into June, temperatures in Denton County are beginning to rise into the 90’s on a fairly regular basis. Before long, we will likely be seeing 100 degrees, as our average first day to reach 100 degrees is July 1st. With that being said, we know that as the temperatures continue to heat up, swimming pool use will continue to increase, and regular pool maintenance becomes even more important. In order for pools to remain clean and clear, they require weekly maintenance. When it comes to weekly pool care and maintenance, there are basically two options: If you are interested in maintaining the pool yourself, using a checklist if often helpful. Following is a checklist similar to what most area pool companies…

Albert did a great job communicating throughout... from swinging by before repair to ensure correct sizing/equipment, through quoting, ordering, scheduling time and completing repair. Top notch, very professional and great experience. Thanks, Albert!

We recently hired Gohlke Pools to remodel our patio and add on an outdoor kitchen. An important feature of the kitchen was a large pizza oven I ordered that from delivery to installation added a lot of complexity to our project. Bill, our project manager, handled every challenge I threw at him with patience and grace. There was some minor damage to the oven during shipping and before they installed it Bill spent a week hunting down replacement tile to repair the damage so I’d never know the difference. The oven looks perfect! Every member of every crew they had at our house were very skilled professionals but I must give a special thanks to their stonemasons, Jesus and Osvaldo. The fireplace they created for us is gorgeous. We couldn’t be happier with our new patio and I can’t recommend Gohlke Pools enough.

Gohlke did a great job building us an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and remodeling our large patio including resurfacing the concrete. Always on schedule, all over the worker were a class act. Bill supervising the job was a real pro and great to deal with. Placing a 3000 pound oven was a challenge and they made it look easy. Real attention to detail. This is a great company!

DFW Hot Tubs made the entire hot tub buying experience easy and enjoyable. Pablo was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind, guiding me through every step and helping my family choose the perfect spa for our needs. He provided clear education on care and maintenance, and his support has continued even after the purchase. I highly recommend DFW Hot Tubs and specifically Pablo for his professionalism and outstanding customer service!

WOW! Just WOW! We couldn’t be happier with our first pool! It’s a huge investment, and you want to feel confident and comfortable with your decision. From the first meet-and-greet to Matt and Connor checking in after completion, we are so thankful we chose Gohlke Pools. Communication gets 100 stars! We received regular email updates throughout the project with timelines and progress reports. Connor was extremely helpful with design ideas and changes, and Matt was always present—taking care of anything and everything promptly. Caden did a fantastic job with our “pool school” at the end. He was patient, answered every question, and genuinely wanted us to feel prepared. The entire process was smooth, and they even finished ahead of schedule. We were also impressed with each subcontractor—the quality of their work and the respect they had for our property were outstanding. Subias, the recommended landscaper, was wonderful to work with, and Javier Subias was incredibly helpful in planning our outdoor design. All in all, we were so impressed with Gohlke that we’ve decided to use them for our weekly service as well. THANK YOU, GOHLKE POOLS, for making our experience so positive!
