There Is No Place Like Home

I think that it goes without saying that our lives have been changed forever due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It is something that none of us have ever been through, and there are many things about the future that we do not know: When will this pandemic end? When can we go see our aging parents? When can we go back to church? When will public gatherings (sporting events, concerts, etc.) once again be allowed? When can we dine in at our favorite local restaurant? What will happen with the economy? Are handshakes & hugs a thing of the past? Will we continue to be as methodical when it comes to hand washing? And there are less serious questions as well, such as: Will I ever be able to scratch my face again? Will the grocery stores ever have toilet paper again? These are just a few of the many questions that we have that none of us know with absolute certainty. We are truly in unchartered waters.

One thing that we do know is that almost all of us have spent more time at home over the past month or two than we ever have before. People are asking—Is my home the way that I want it? Is this where I want to spend my time if this ever happens again? It has led many of us to think of ways that we can improve our home. I have had several people even mention to me that they plan on cutting down on their leisure travel and instead will spend that money to make home improvements. Although the possibilities are endless, following are a few home improvements to consider:

Whether or not you decide to make any home improvements as a result of this pandemic, quite a few have decided to do just that. With access to all of the information that is out there via websites such as Pinterest, Houzz, etc., it doesn’t take long to see all of the possibilities. It can literally transform your entire outlook on your home.

We have all heard sayings such as—“There is no place like home”; “It’s so good to be home”; “Home sweet home”—there are many more. But there really is a feeling of peacefulness and contentment at home that makes it like no other place.

Bell Ringers

Being part of the Denton community has been a real blessing for Gohlke Pools. Although we do our best to give back to the community throughout the year, there is something about the Christmas season that brings out the best in the staff of Gohlke Pools. Many years ago, we primarily focused our efforts on the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, which is buying gifts for young people who would not otherwise get gifts. This Dry Weather Can Cause Pool Problems

We are entering a time of extremely dry and hot weather, which is really drying out the soils. This follows some fairly good rainfall totals that we have had this summer. Extremes such as this can cause problems as this area tends to have expansive soil—soil that expands when it gets wet and contracts when it gets dry. This expansion and contraction of the soil causes whatever is in contact with the soil to also experience movement. This movement can damage not only pool decks, but also on house foundations, driveways, sidewalks, and patios. Upcoming Freeze Alert

Looks like some cold weather is on it’s way – save yourself from expensive repairs due to freeze damage. Below are things to check before the cold weather gets here: Make sure your main pool pump is functional and is running whenever freezing weather occurs. Most pool pump timers/controls use a freeze guard to accomplish this. If the pump doesn’t automatically kick on, you will need to manually run it whenever the air temperature is 32 degrees or below. Drain waterfall and auxiliary pumps or make sure they are running as well when it is freezing. We recently hired Gohlke Pools to remodel our patio and add on an outdoor kitchen. An important feature of the kitchen was a large pizza oven I ordered that from delivery to installation added a lot of complexity to our project. Bill, our project manager, handled every challenge I threw at him with patience and grace. There was some minor damage to the oven during shipping and before they installed it Bill spent a week hunting down replacement tile to repair the damage so I’d never know the difference. The oven looks perfect! Every member of every crew they had at our house were very skilled professionals but I must give a special thanks to their stonemasons, Jesus and Osvaldo. The fireplace they created for us is gorgeous. We couldn’t be happier with our new patio and I can’t recommend Gohlke Pools enough.

Gohlke did a great job building us an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and remodeling our large patio including resurfacing the concrete. Always on schedule, all over the worker were a class act. Bill supervising the job was a real pro and great to deal with. Placing a 3000 pound oven was a challenge and they made it look easy. Real attention to detail. This is a great company!
